The road to becoming approved and staying approved to educate Veterans funded through VA Education benefits / entitlements is becoming increasingly difficult. Regulations and policies are changing on a regular basis and the interpretation of regulations and policy varies from state to state.
The most important decision to consider with Veterans Education is determining if your school is ready to deal with extremely high levels of compliance scrutiny. Many schools only look at the potential increase in revenue that can come from training Veterans who use their education benefits. This is the wrong. Schools who enter into Veterans education with the goal of increasing revenue without considering the regulatory impact they will face generally fail compliance audits and ultimately are terminated from the program. Does your school have the people and infrastructure in place to manage regulatory and compliance necessary to run a successful Veterans education program? A few things to consider are:
* How are non-VA funded students paying for their education?
* How are the school staff compensated?
* Does the school use any type of outside agencies for recruiting, advertising, or student services?
* Is the school financially sound?
Ensuring that internal regulatory and compliance systems and procedures are followed once approved is critical to your programs success. Post-Secondary Advisors is well versed in all Veteran’s Education matters including initial approval, compliance surveys (audits), behind the scenes ‘risk based’ surveys, and in-depth investigations. Our goal is to put your school in position to exceed all regulatory expectations from the moment a conversation begins to the finalization of compliance audits. We’ve been in your shoes and understand the complexities to running successful programs. PSA is here to help you and your school avoid the compliance and regulatory issues schools face.
Colleges and Universities all over the United States are trying to expand their curriculum offerings. Not only do they want to expand their offerings, but they want to create short term training programs so that their students are 'work ready' in months, not years.
Your career school has been doing this for years! The time is perfect to partner with colleges who need your curriculum (which they don't have) to expand into new markets (which they can't currently access). In addition, you can partner with colleges and universities so that your students can earn college credit for their training program and access funding sources which you may not have access to currently.
These types of agreements are difficult to put together in order for them to be mutually beneficial to both parties. In addition, they need to be put together within all regulations governing both schools. With over 10 years working with different types of schools – private, public, accredited, non-accredited – PSA has the knowledge, expertise, and a proven track record of success with collegiate partnerships.
Entering this market is tricky. Get an expert to help guide you through the process!
Finding resources to start an apprenticeship program is relatively easy. There are many government and private sources that can tell your school what documents need to be created and filed in order to get apprenticeships approved at state and federal levels. There are few sources willing to assist that have actual experience developing and implementing with success Federally and State approved programs in established and emerging industries.
PSA’s team of experts is credited with having won grants for apprenticeship development as well as successfully bring programs to market and having employers adopt them. In addition, because of their years of success with apprenticeship programs, PSA has deep connections within state and federal offices that can help your school receive expert attention upon submission for approval.
Apprenticeship is not a program that is by any means easy. In addition, it is not a program that is dependent on one department or set of individuals to manage. Apprenticeship takes a true organizational effort to ensure sustainability and success. It takes a team of hardworking individuals to make a program work, but most of all it takes dedication and long-term commitment from executive management to invest in the program in order to see its rewards - more students employed in careers they love with credentials they can take wherever their career takes them.
Have a compliance team on sight? A second look can never hurt and can sometimes end up saving your school's license. Even with employees’ best intentions, critical details can sometimes be overlooked that can cause pain, problems, and potentially suspension or license revocation. Having an expert unbiased third-party review the work, systems, procedures, and practices of your team can be a great way to ensure your school is operating within all regulatory bounds. In addition, having someone from ‘the outside’ review your schools compliance methods and practices can open your staff up to more efficient ways to manage compliance. Using PSA as a resource in this capacity, can help you feel more secure with your compliance standing, but also ensure your staff is operating both effectively and efficiently.
Considering closing your school? Closing a school is more than just checking off items on a list and closing the doors. States and accreditors have specific requirements for school closures. With the right processes and procedures, this does not have to be difficulty. However, without a defined manner and method for the closure, you can risk severe fines and penalties even after your last student has graduated. We’ve been down this path and can assist in the process. Whether that assistance is simply developing a plan for closure, or assisting in working with your regulators, we have the experience and knowledge to make the process as efficient and quick as the regulations allow.
